The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician (RTT) is responsible for performing routine habilitative and rehabilitative therapy tasks.

Key duties include assisting the habilitation/rehabilitation supervisor in providing support to individuals within a designated therapeutic specialty (e.g., supported employment job coaching and/or vocational rehabilitation).

Responsibilities involve aiding in the implementation of treatment plans and accompanying individuals to activities and appointments as needed. The role also includes maintaining cleanliness in therapeutic areas.

A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a state vehicle may be necessary, depending on facility requirements.

Work is conducted under moderate supervision, allowing for limited initiative and independent judgment.


This position may require driving a state-owned vehicle.


Core Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is essential, and you may be required to adhere to a specific shift schedule, including rotating shifts and/or overtime as per agency policies, while also performing additional assigned duties.


Prepare materials for assessments using data from previous evaluations and assist in conducting assessments as directed.


Accompany individuals to and from activities and appointments when necessary.


Organize materials for therapeutic activities and ensure an adequate supply is maintained.


Carry out housekeeping tasks in therapeutic areas as instructed.

Provide assistance to individuals within a designated therapeutic specialty (e.g., supported employment job coaching and/or vocational rehabilitation) using hands-on methods.


Conduct direct contact observations and complete observation documentation.


Gather data related to treatment plans as instructed.

Offer feedback to the interdisciplinary team regarding individual progress, collaborate with Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to maintain connections, and assist in developing treatment plans for the assigned discipline.

Establish treatment goals that are practical for the team to implement while prioritizing the individual's best interests.


Maintain current skills relevant to assigned responsibilities.

Additional duties may include actively participating in or supporting the agency's disaster response and/or recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation, which may necessitate alternate shift patterns or locations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge, or the ability to acquire knowledge, of relevant therapeutic techniques.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with, or the ability to learn about, the equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic activities.
  • Ability to assist in the development of treatment and support plans.
  • Capability to collect data for assigned therapeutic specialties (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant software.
  • General knowledge of, or the ability to learn about, ICF-IID regulations and State Supported Living Center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet the same physical requirements as those for direct contact staff positions.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively and effectively with others.
