Position Purpose:
Drivers in food and food service delivery play a vital role in the national food supply chain.

Our delivery operators ensure that products reach customers on time and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our organization and building lasting relationships with clients. As a Shuttle Truck Operator, you will be crucial to our operations by transporting empty trailers to warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to designated shuttle yard locations.

The Shuttle Truck Operator drives a tandem trailer, tractor-trailer, and/or straight truck on both intrastate and interstate routes to transport empty trailers to warehouse locations.

Delivers full trailers containing various products to designated shuttle yard locations safely and promptly, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Communicates professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring inquiries are addressed accurately and timely.

Functions as a collaborative team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best serve the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting all necessary safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations; ensuring equipment meets company safety standards and taking appropriate actions as needed.
  • Reporting all safety concerns and required repairs.
  • Adhering to all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies; immediately reporting any safety hazards.
  • Inspecting trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
  • Ensuring all required route documentation is with the tractor-trailer load and accessible upon dispatch.
  • Driving and delivering trailers according to a predetermined route schedule.
  • Performing hook/unhook procedures following safety guidelines.
  • Parking and storing tractor-trailers in designated areas.
  • Ensuring all equipment and freight are secured at all times.
  • Collecting and securing damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailers for return to the base facility, completing necessary paperwork.
  • Unloading all equipment and materials, and removing trash from trailers as required.
  • Maintaining a daily record of hours of service and entering logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Performing general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keeping trailers clean and organized as needed.
  • Carrying out other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
  • Internal candidates must be in good standing.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid CDL A license.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Ability to work a 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights (schedules may vary).
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Pass road test.
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new DOT Health Card.
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift; product generally ranges from 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the location.
