Job Description

Position: High School Cross-Content Teacher

Department: Curriculum and Instruction

Supervisor(s): Upper School Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Type: Full-time, 10-month, Benefits Eligible

Job Summary:

The Lexington School for the Deaf seeks a skilled and dedicated Cross-Content Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing educational curricula for two or more subjects, tailored to high school students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement lesson plans to teach students a subject, utilizing New York State Education standards and curriculum.
  • Develop and implement a motivating curriculum for high school students, incorporating technology and innovative teaching methods.
  • Modify lesson plans and materials to suit students' current learning levels, ensuring inclusive and accessible education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback, promoting a positive learning culture.
  • Monitor and track student progress, issuing grades and providing individualized support as needed.
  • Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to the school's vision, purpose, and mission.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field.
  • New York State Teaching Certification.
  • New York State Science Certification.
  • Prior experience working with deaf students is strongly preferred.

Security Clearance:

  • Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds at times.
