Job Summary:
We are seeking a Substitute Instructional Assistant to provide support to our classroom teachers in carrying out group and individual instruction of deaf students. The ideal candidate will be flexible, patient, and dependable, with good judgment and a positive attitude towards students.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist classroom teachers in maintaining and monitoring students' classroom progress and supporting a positive classroom culture and environment.
- Provide one-on-one instruction/coaching to students as requested by the teacher.
- Assist in preparing classroom materials and supporting the physical care of students and/or classroom as needed.
- Escort physically limited students from class to class and assist students with mobility.
- Supervise gym areas and other common areas as needed.
- Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives and demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
- Regents or Local High School Diploma, or GED required.
- Experience working with adolescents preferred.
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or willing to learn.
- Medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, and SCR and SEL clearance required.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of walking in and around the building.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
