Job Summary

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Refugee Health Coordinator to join our team in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the State Refugee Health Coordinator's team in welcoming ORR-eligible newcomers to Texas and assisting their U.S.-based sponsors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to private sponsorship groups, family ties, and other entities by developing referrals and linkages to local refugee resettlement agencies, health care providers, mainstream benefits, and other community partners.
  • Act as the point of contact for individual sponsors, private sponsorship groups/organizations, and agencies administering alternative pathways programs, and liaise with counterparts at the Texas Office for Refugees.
  • Build successful working relationships with organizations and entities providing services to target populations and engage prospective community partners, participating organizations, prospective supporters, clients, and other stakeholders to gather information, coordinate, and develop resources and services.
  • Develop and evaluate program service delivery in new geographic locations, including federal reporting requirements, data, policies, and procedures.
  • Interpret and communicate federal rules and Refugee Program standards of practice regarding post-arrival processes to sponsors to ensure compliance among sponsorship groups, service providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in state-level workgroups regarding community-level access to services as well as national workgroups to identify best practices and discuss challenges with the coordination of private sponsorship groups and alternative pathways.
  • Develop training materials, resource guides, and support materials.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and update of standard operating procedures, process flows, and systems to ensure an effective and efficient program implementation.
  • Assist in writing reports, collecting data, responding to emails and phone calls, scheduling meetings, organizing assigned tasks, and executing them as efficiently and timely as possible.
  • Collect and organize data and information available to the SRHC and other team members on sponsors, locations, and arrivals through various pathways.
  • Collaborate with program staff to assist in collecting data for federal reports as necessary, including the ORR-6, ORR-5, and other reports identified by leadership.
  • Maintain constant communication with the TX RHS Programs Manager and the SRHC regarding program strategy, issues, and concerns, program successes and challenges, technical assistance needs, etc.
  • Assist or lead new initiatives and special projects to augment the capacity of the roles of the State Refugee Health Coordinator and Programs Manager.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as international affairs, public/global health, healthcare administration, or social services, from an accredited institution.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • At least three years of demonstrated work experience, preferably in refugee resettlement, refugee health and wellness, or related social service programs.
  • Experience working with health and human service organizations, including federal, state, local governments, clinics, hospitals, nonprofits, and community, ethnic, or faith-based organizations.
  • Working knowledge of the overall refugee resettlement process, including the Reception and Placement program, ORR programs (including those under Cash and Medical Assistance as well as Refugee Support Services), and mainstream public benefits in Texas.
  • Demonstrated track record of cultural humility and experience working with international populations.
  • Strong oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences and articulate the needs, strengths, and issues of refugees and their families.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for program enhancement, take initiative, and have foresight to plan ahead and take action on tasks pre-emptively.
  • Ability to prioritize duties independently, think strategically, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including writing reports and materials for different audiences and public speaking.
  • Strong skillset in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and meet regular deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to keep multiple assignments moving forward with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  • Dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
  • Reliable transportation, valid US driver's license, and active insurance policy.
Training and Physical Demands
