Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified American Sign Language Instructor to join our adjunct faculty pool at Kern Community College District. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of ASL courses, including language courses, Deaf Culture, and Performance and Literature.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ASL courses, including language courses, Deaf Culture, and Performance and Literature
  • Develop and revise curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Use computer and multimedia technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Participate in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities
  • Maintain subject matter currency and stay up-to-date with industry developments
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or
  • Associate degree and six years of professional experience, or
  • The equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program
