About the Role

The City of Idaho Falls, ID is seeking a highly skilled Fleet Mechanic to join our team. As a Fleet Mechanic - Journey Level, you will be responsible for performing a variety of journey-level skilled duties to repair and maintain equipment and vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair various types of equipment, including large equipment, general automotive, turf equipment, and upfits.
  • Participate in training and instructing less experienced personnel in complex maintenance and repair of automotive, medium, heavy-duty and turf equipment.
  • Comply with established safety standards; enforce safety practices.
  • Maintain assigned work area; keep assigned area clean and free of hazards.
  • Assist in maintaining shared work areas in order to ensure safe and orderly day-to-day operations.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or GED; plus completion of a two (2) year apprentice or vocational program in automotive and/or heavy equipment service and repair.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field directly related to above duties.
  • Considerable knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of diversified mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including: word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Journey level skill in the use of mechanical tools, materials, fabrication, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose complex and non-routine mechanical and electrical defects and determine parts and adjustments necessary to repair equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE certified truck and/or auto mechanic with successful completion of the ASE test modules A4, A5, A6, A8 or T2, T4 and T7.
  • Valid Idaho CDL Class B with hazard and tanker endorsements.
Work Environment

This position normally works in a safe, climate-controlled environment. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and lifting.
