Job Summary

The Office of Student Affairs at Columbia Business School is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Programs and Events to lead the planning and execution of major student-facing events across all degree programs. This is a key role in supporting the academic and community experience for MBA, Executive MBA, and MS students.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement a strategic vision for student events, including new student orientations, graduation exercises, and networking events.
  2. Manage a team of two programs and events staff members, providing guidance and support to ensure successful event execution.
  3. Collaborate with the Student Life and Engagement, Academic Affairs, and Operations teams to support the student experience across all programs.
  4. Compile and contribute content for the Dean's Orientation and Recognition remarks, creating briefings and assisting deans and associate deans.
  5. Partner with the Associate Director of Strategic Communications to proactively communicate with students via email and the CBS website.
  6. Make data-informed decisions, collecting data from events and implementing feedback to improve processes and the student experience.
  7. Advise and coach VPs of Events within Student Government and serve as the OSA lead for the MBA Follies show.
  8. Promote internal and external vendor and stakeholder relationships, exercising a collaborative mindset.
  9. Perform related work and special projects as identified by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs or the Dean of Students.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Prior event planning and graduate student advising experience needed.
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes atmosphere.
  • Event management and execution experience required, with the ability and willingness to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, with experience using Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, and social media.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty, and administrators, with problem-solving skills and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Personnel or Event Management preferred.
