Objective:

Position Summary:

This position is integral to crisis intervention, focusing on establishing connections to evidence-based treatment services for individuals facing mental health challenges. You will assist clients in crisis by addressing their unique needs.

As a Recovery Support Advocate, you will help clients articulate their recovery goals, monitor their progress, model effective coping strategies based on your own recovery journey, and advocate for their access to appropriate services. This role involves working with individuals both in group settings and one-on-one to empower them to lead fulfilling lives. The intended clientele includes anyone seeking treatment referrals for mental health or substance use disorders, as well as organizations and communities that frequently interact with individuals facing these challenges. You will serve as a recovery coach and role model, delivering peer-based services that guide individuals in discovering their own recovery paths from substance use and/or mental health disorders. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will engage in outreach and supportive services to connect individuals with the entire treatment team, promoting hope, responsibility, empowerment, and self-sufficiency while helping clients integrate into their chosen communities.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 12am - 8am

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop professional relationships with clients that transcend traditional expert/patient dynamics, fostering mutual learning based on hope, equality, respect, personal responsibility, and self-determination.
  • Inspire hope through personal narratives and utilize life experiences in a professional manner to assist others.
  • Encourage recovery, wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Support active participation in illness management and assist individuals in identifying and pursuing desired changes in their wellness journey.
  • Deliver peer-led, evidence-based services that empower individuals to set and achieve their goals, enhance healthy lifestyle practices, and minimize self-stigma.
  • Assist clients in overcoming social or emotional barriers to maintain motivation towards their goals.
  • Engage in outreach to priority populations that could benefit from mental health and substance use disorder services.
  • Exhibit deep respect and empathy for the challenges posed by serious mental health and substance use issues, providing understanding through shared experiences of emotional and psychological distress.
  • Facilitate connections between clients and healthcare professionals, guiding individuals to seek clinical and community resources as appropriate.
  • In specific situations, provide transportation for clients facing barriers to attending critical appointments.
  • Conduct follow-up calls for a defined period post-treatment to help prevent relapse.
  • Support clients in achieving their goals both individually and in group settings.
  • Document service provision in accordance with clinical and administrative policies.
  • Meet defined individual and departmental goals, activity metrics, and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Promote and exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Mental Health Partners through behavior and job performance, adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Engage effectively with other staff, clients, and partners.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance to fulfill essential job functions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Specialized Responsibilities:

  • Target specific populations in need of mental health and substance use disorder services through community outreach efforts, collaborating with the treatment team focused on crisis services.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to motivate and support behavioral changes, particularly concerning opiate use.
  • Possess lived experience with mental illness and have engaged with community services in the past.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Peer Support Certificate or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire required.
  • Personal lived experience with mental illness or substance use issues is essential, preferably within the public mental health system.
  • Experience in outreach to emergency departments, crisis services, and other community agencies is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and maintain a good driving record.
  • For the Withdrawal Management team only: lived experience with both mental illness and substance use issues is required.
