Key Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a full-time Railroad Specialist to join our team in Brookings, SD, focusing primarily on shortline railroads and private sector projects in the upper Midwest.
  • This position reports directly to the Managing Partner.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of track inspections, maintenance strategies, feasibility assessments, cost evaluations, and other necessary documentation.
  • Review survey data, drawings, maps, blueprints, aerial imagery, and other geological or topographical information relevant to project studies.
  • Engage in preliminary site evaluations.
  • Oversee assigned construction projects under the guidance of the Managing Partner to ensure timely completion and adherence to project specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections to monitor progress and verify compliance with design standards and requirements.
  • Prepare observation reports and other documentation to track construction advancements.
  • Assist in the analysis and inspection of railroad facilities under the direction of the Managing Partner.
  • Gather and analyze data to generate comprehensive reports.
  • Coordinate and participate in inspections and meetings to collect pertinent information for studies.
  • Support the development of existing client relationships and the acquisition of new clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Managing Partner.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in railroad construction or construction management is preferred but not mandatory.
  • An Associate's degree, Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent experience is considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards applicable to construction observation.
  • A self-motivated team player with a positive attitude, capable of multitasking and prioritizing effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to construction sites approximately 75% of the time, with office work comprising about 25% of the role.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
