About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Consultant to join our team at South Dakota State University's Engineering Extension Department. As a Safety Consultant, you will play a critical role in implementing the Federal OSHA Consultation Program grant, providing valuable support to businesses and industries across South Dakota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance and support to South Dakota businesses and industries to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Conduct thorough safety inspections and assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Develop and implement effective safety programs and procedures to prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborate with employers, employees, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and health in the workplace.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest OSHA regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance and provide expert advice to clients.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management, Health, Safety, Construction Management, Technology, or related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software and ability to learn new software and technologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively throughout the state.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience with OSHA General Industry and/or Construction Standards, OSHA Consultation Programs/Policies/Procedures.
  • Experience in identifying and evaluating safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Experience in abating identified safety hazards according to OSHA standards.
  • Experience as a presenter at safety seminars and/or conferences.
