Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Building Technician/HVAC to join our team at the Desert Research Institute. As a key member of our Facilities team, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical malfunctions and perform routine maintenance and repairs
  • Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment and prepare cost estimates for repairs
  • Purchase supplies and materials and document all work performed
  • Provide general assistance to department personnel, faculty, and staff, and ensure building safety and security
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, and maintenance manuals
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards and ability to strictly enforce all safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional education and/or training in a related field
  • Experience in a large commercial, educational, or institutional facility
  • Hands-on experience in a variety of building trades, including plumbing and electrical
Working Conditions
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting objects in excess of 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working at heights up to 30 ft.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license
  • This position is scheduled to work 1st shift, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday
Benefits

This is a DRI Technologist position Grade 34 with a salary range of $60,611 - $88,298 (salary range effective 10/1/2024) and is commensurate with education and experience. DRI offers an exceptional benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, PERS 17.5% retirement match, 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of sick leave accrued per month, 12 paid holidays, and educational benefits.
