Experience:
  • A minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience in an ethics and compliance capacity within a prestigious organization, law firm, or governmental body, which includes:
    • Development and execution of compliance programs.
    • Familiarity with key compliance regulations (FCPA, SAPIN II preferred, anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws, anti-trust and competition laws, data privacy laws).
    • Understanding of trade compliance issues, such as economic sanctions, export controls, import regulations, and anti-boycott laws is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Capability to independently manage diverse projects and make informed decisions while prioritizing tasks.
  • Proficient relationship management and persuasive skills.
  • Experience with SAP and restricted party screening software is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties of this position encompass:
  • Collaborating effectively in a cross-functional environment to provide exceptional ethics and compliance support while enhancing the expertise of team members.
  • Supporting the management of the compliance function with a focus on areas such as:
    • Anti-Corruption
    • Anti-Trust
    • Data Privacy
    • Fraud Prevention
    • Ethics/Human Rights
    • Trade Compliance
  • Serving as the main contact and compliance officer for U.S. affiliates, including those in renewable energy.
  • Leading the design and execution of compliance programs for current and future renewable energy affiliates.
  • Assisting the Deputy General Counsel in strategic planning and enhancement of compliance programs.
  • Aiding the organization in demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability to stakeholders.
  • Implementing ethics and compliance policies and procedures to mitigate risk and potential penalties.
  • Developing and delivering compliance training for all organizational levels, including U.S. and international audiences, to raise awareness of ethics and compliance laws and facilitate strategic business solutions.
  • Providing support to the trade compliance team regarding import, export, and licensing functions.
  • Collaborating with Corporate, Commercial Law, HSSE, Litigation, and M&A teams on all aspects of business activities.
  • Continuously seeking best practices to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of ethics and compliance programs, including refining internal processes.
  • Creating compliance communications, policies, web content, and training materials; delivering training sessions.
  • Ensuring that procedures, guidance, and standards are developed and maintained in accordance with local requirements and best practices.
  • Participating in and assisting with the management of the compliance network.
  • Monitoring and providing regular updates to senior management regarding compliance developments, cases, and regulatory changes.
  • Overseeing third-party due diligence processes, gifts and hospitality registers, training statistics, and routine compliance reporting obligations.
  • Assisting with regular restricted party screenings.
  • Reviewing contracts for compliance provisions and maintaining a library of compliance-related contractual terms.
  • Managing awareness of the Business Integrity Line and the annual Code of Conduct and Business Ethics Questionnaire.
  • Assisting with compliance audits, conducting assessments, and participating in investigations while developing risk mitigation action plans as necessary.
  • Organizing and conducting annual ethics and compliance awareness events.
  • Collaborating with other legal department members on various matters.
  • Engaging in special projects as required.
Context & Environment
  • This role supports a diverse range of energy businesses across over 150 entities with a dynamic and expanding scope. As part of the TotalEnergies American Services (TEAS) entity, you will provide ethics and compliance support to TotalEnergies' U.S. operations.
  • Interacting with employees and contractors at all levels across various business units and administrative groups, including senior management and domestic and international affiliates, as well as external customers, regulators, consultants, and legal advisors.
  • Regularly reporting to upper management on the status of the ethics and compliance program, initiatives, and any areas of concern.
  • Facilitating proactive compliance assessments across all divisions and conducting follow-up assessments to promote continuous improvement and prevent violations.
  • Advocating for best practices throughout all divisions.
