Your Impact:

The Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) will be pivotal in addressing the needs of institutional clients through a solutions-oriented approach. The IPM will advocate for our custom model capabilities to the external market on behalf of Fidelity Institutional Wealth Advisor (FIWA). As the outward-facing member of the investment team, the IPM will represent FIWA's investment offerings, including model portfolios, research, and thought leadership to both prospective and existing clients. The IPM will generate new business opportunities by formulating strategic investment solutions and will engage clients through discussions on investment policies, performance evaluations, and capital market analyses.

The IPM will collaborate closely with the investment team, research, thought leadership, and distribution teams. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with potential custom model portfolio clients to comprehend their investment requirements and mandates while working alongside the FIWA engineering team to implement tailored solutions;
  • Building and sustaining a deep understanding of investment insights to effectively communicate externally as an extension of the FIWA team;
  • Overseeing portfolio rebalances, positioning, performance, and attribution of existing mandates and presenting portfolios to our clients, partnering with distribution to translate investment decisions into client-facing commentary;
  • Interpreting capital market perspectives that influence investment strategies and solutions;
  • Establishing marketplace credibility to represent the investment team and process as well as the overall Fidelity organization effectively in client, consultant, and industry conference speaking engagements;
  • Providing insights on marketplace perspectives, developments, and competitor trends to enhance investment and business platforms;
  • Translating investment infrastructure and product management support to enhance investment solution offerings and implementations, including marketing, client reporting, and product/solutions positioning.

Core Competencies:

The IPM will possess:

  • Investment expertise to comprehend how portfolios can be structured to meet client objectives, including asset class proficiency across global public and private market investments with a focus on total return mandates;
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities with the capacity to collaborate across multiple internal business groups and external clients and consultants;
  • Exceptional client communication skills in delivering asset solutions to institutional clients;
  • A commitment to contributing to thought leadership initiatives, including articles, presentations, and research to support Fidelity's institutional business.

Qualifications:

Experience and Education:

  • 10-15 years of experience in the investment industry;
  • A proven track record of analytical work in institutional solutions and the implementation of investment management strategies for a diverse range of institutional clients;
  • CFA designation or a similar educational background is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Highly effective and consistent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Executive presence and the ability to cultivate productive relationships with internal and external partners;
  • Capability to articulate the detailed mechanics of client issues and investment solutions to institutional clients;
  • Comfort and ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment, with a frequent focus on achieving consensus across a broad spectrum of investment management, distribution, product management, and senior management stakeholders;
  • Ability to balance resolve and temperament in pursuing opportunities through organizational structures;
  • Willingness to travel frequently, with an overall expectation of 20-30% travel.
