Facility Overview:
Our Wakefield facility is among the largest production sites within Michael Foods, functioning as a versatile plant capable of producing a wide array of products, from whole pasteurized eggs to liquid, dried, hardboiled eggs, and curds.
Position Summary:
As a Quality Assurance Lab Technician, you will be integral in upholding the safety and compliance of our products. Your keen attention to detail and commitment to established protocols will ensure that all incoming materials and outgoing products align with our stringent quality standards. Through precise documentation and thorough analyses, you will support the delivery of safe, high-quality products that benefit both Michael Foods and our valued customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and receive samples for microbiological, chemical, or process analysis, following standardized protocols.
- Conduct laboratory analyses using established testing methods to verify compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Evaluate test results against specifications, ensuring accurate and clear documentation.
- Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and perform equipment checks and safety monitoring.
- Assist in the maintenance of the laboratory's quality control system and database.
- Keep a clean and organized workspace, including storage areas.
- Support quality initiatives and engage in cross-functional team activities.
- Perform bacterial identifications, manage microbiological waste and biohazards, and prepare media for testing in the microbiology lab.
- Conduct process and chemical analyses, handle chemicals safely, and prepare solutions for production in the chemistry/process lab.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
- Report any conditions or practices that may negatively impact food safety and quality.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a one-year certificate program from a college or technical school in Food Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate effectively with various documents, including safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpret bar graphs.
- Excellent reasoning skills, with the capacity to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles is essential for microbiological and chemical testing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary.
