Location Overview:

Wakefield is recognized as one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods, functioning as a flexible plant capable of producing a wide range of products, from whole pasteurized eggs to liquid, dried, hardboiled eggs, and curds.

Position Summary:

As a Quality Assurance Lab Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and compliance of our products. Your keen attention to detail and strict adherence to established procedures will ensure that all incoming materials and outgoing products align with our high-quality standards. By maintaining precise documentation and conducting thorough analyses, you will contribute to the delivery of safe and high-quality products, benefiting both Michael Foods and our valued customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and prepare samples for microbiological, chemical, or process analysis, following standardized protocols.
  • Conduct laboratory analyses using established testing methods to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Review test results against specifications and maintain accurate, legible documentation.
  • Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and ensure equipment checks and safety monitoring.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the lab's quality control system and database.
  • Keep a clean and organized work area, including storage spaces.
  • Support quality initiatives and actively engage in cross-functional teams.
  • Perform bacterial identifications, sterilize microbiological waste and biohazards, and prepare media for testing in the microbiology lab.
  • Conduct process and chemical analyses, work safely with chemicals, and prepare solutions for production in the chemistry/process lab.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions, ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance.
  • Take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may negatively impact food safety and quality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school in Food Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate effectively with various documents, including safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Excellent reasoning ability, with the capacity to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles essential for microbiology and chemistry testing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
