Position Overview:
As a Senior Telecommunications Solutions Architect within our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services division, you will:

Engagement in Client Projects:
Participate in dynamic utility client initiatives to strategize, engineer, and devise communication solutions that meet operational needs and adapt to emerging trends such as Smart Grid, Distribution Automation, and Smart Metering.

Technical Analysis:
Conduct radio path studies, including path profiles, propagation assessments, and link power calculations, to ensure optimal performance.

Licensing and Permitting:
Advise, coordinate, and assist in the processes of licensing and permitting.

Network Architecture Development:
Create network architecture designs utilizing TDM, SONET, IP/MPLS, and other pertinent standards.

Documentation and Timing Studies:
Prepare network and channel schematics and execute timing analyses.

Designing Reliable Systems:
Develop fail-safe systems with equipment redundancies and diversity to support mission-critical operations with utmost reliability.

Compliance Assurance:
Ensure compliance with NERC standards for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP).

System Integration Testing:
Stage, configure, and test integrated system designs for interoperability and performance, consistent with predictive models in our Protection, Automation & Telecommunication Laboratory.

Support System Specifications:
Define requirements and provide cost assessments for ancillary support systems, including radio towers, fiber optic cable plants, DC power systems, grounding, and distribution panels.

Collaboration and Guidance:
Coordinate and mentor other engineers, project managers, client representatives, and suppliers to ensure a comprehensive and timely design process.

Travel Opportunities:
This role may require travel to client and vendor locations as necessary.

Work Arrangement:
This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing for three days in the office and two days of remote work each week.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the electric utility sector or with a consulting firm.
  • Familiarity with TDM hierarchy, digital cross-connect switches, SONET, IP, Ethernet, and serial interfaces.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Experience with radio propagation modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of electric utility systems, including System Protection and SCADA.
  • Familiarity with NERC CIP standards and Cyber-Security.
