Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Grand Prairie, TX. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by inspecting new and existing structures for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections of new and existing residences, commercial, multi-family projects, and all associated structures to ensure work done is in compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
  • Complete inspection results by entering inspection information into a computer system, tracking inspections, and writing field reports as needed.
  • Administer and interpret applicable sections of adopted codes and ordinances.
  • Respond to concerns and inquiries from citizens, contractors, builders, engineers, and other entities on all aspects of building inspection.
  • Regular and dependable attendance is required.
Requirements
  • Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify.
  • Education: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.
  • Experience: Over two years up to and including four years.
  • Licenses: Valid Class C Driver's License required.
  • Certifications Required: State Plumbing Inspector's License is required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire date.
