Position Overview
The Bilingual Healthcare Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between English-speaking staff and patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). This position collaborates with various clinical teams, including medical, dental, and pharmacy, to ensure high-quality care for all patients. The interpreter is responsible for coordinating interpreting services that align with patient needs and maintaining accurate documentation in the patient's healthcare record. Additionally, this role may involve translating written materials and providing sight translations to improve patient understanding of medical procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains clear communication with all team members and stakeholders.
- Accurately interprets conversations between staff and LEP patients, ensuring fidelity to the original message.
- Adheres to the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters.
- Follows established documentation protocols for all interpreting services rendered.
- Utilizes organizational technologies, including scheduling systems and Electronic Health Records, to enhance language access and interpreting services.
- Proactively assesses the need for interpreting services and coordinates these services based on available resources.
- Translates basic patient instructions and educational materials as directed, adhering to standard protocols.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in both Spanish and English, with advanced oral and written skills. Understanding of the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks effectively, and quickly learn new software applications.
