Position Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant plays a crucial role within our organization. This individual will engage in various tax compliance, reporting, and financial planning initiatives as directed by the executive leadership while also managing routine accounting tasks. Responsibilities include overseeing general accounting practices, establishing and maintaining internal controls, supervising accounting personnel, and mentoring team members. This role is designed for growth as the firm continues to develop and adapt.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts, along with direct client communication.
  • Conduct thorough taxable income assessments for clients to differentiate between taxable and non-taxable income across various tax return options.
  • Provide audit representation through correspondence and in-person meetings.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly tax estimates and year-end extensions to ensure timely submissions.
  • Research tax-related issues across applicable domains, documenting findings and keeping abreast of legislative changes.
  • Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on client service.

Accounting Duties:

  • Record financial transactions through journal entries, including cash management and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Oversee month-end closing processes, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheets and maintain roll-forward schedules.
  • Assist in generating monthly consolidated profit and loss statements and balance sheet analyses for management.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts for a diverse clientele.
  • Manage daily operations of the accounting department, including month-end processes, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, cash flow analysis, and asset management.
  • Analyze accounting data and assist in creating financial reports and presentations.
  • Act as a liaison among various departments to resolve project cost and billing issues.
  • Oversee the workload of the accounting team, assigning tasks and ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Experience in business and customer development.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new staff members.
  • Continuously seek innovative methods to enhance and streamline firm processes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and engage actively with the team.
  • Possess excellent organizational, communication, time management, and presentation skills.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or EA designation preferred. A Master's Degree in Taxation is a plus.
  • CTEC certification is mandatory if not a CPA or EA.
  • Proficient in Lacerte Tax software.
  • Skilled in QuickBooks.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, relevant IRC sections, and estate and gift tax regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional judgment and critical thinking capabilities.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range of $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
