Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role within the YNHHS healthcare team, dedicated to delivering exemplary patient-centered care. Operating within the legal and ethical boundaries set forth by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, the RN exemplifies professional nursing through leadership, collaboration, effective communication, and a commitment to quality outcomes.

We prioritize Nursing Professional Governance and leverage evidence-based practices to ensure that patient and family needs remain at the forefront of our care.

The RN is responsible for:
  • Establishing and nurturing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, incorporating cultural and diversity considerations into care.
  • Collaborating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Respecting patients' values, preferences, and expressed needs during holistic data collection, care planning, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Standards of Practice:
    The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, which outline a competent level of nursing care through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Standards of Professional Performance:
    The RN is expected to demonstrate professional behavior in various domains, including ethics, culturally competent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality of practice, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Qualifications

Education:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required, with a BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification is mandatory for newly hired registered nurses.

Experience:
This position serves as the foundational role for all RNs, with opportunities for advancement through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Licensure:
Must be a licensed and currently registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification is highly encouraged.

Special Skills:
All RNs are encouraged to pursue advancement through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Physical Demands:
This role requires prolonged standing and walking, along with the use of sight, hearing, and touch. Exposure to infectious diseases and various physical, mental, and emotional health conditions is expected. The RN must be capable of assisting with the movement of patients weighing between five (5) and three hundred (300) pounds.
