Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Civil Engineer Trainee to join our team at the New York State Department of Transportation. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will assist in the design and construction of various projects, including bridges, roads, and recreational facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and checking of designs for bridges and other structural components
  • Prepare and check layouts for entire bridge structures
  • Assist in field inspections of project sites or existing bridge and structures
  • Develop and implement traffic engineering and safety studies
  • Review and compile highway work permits
  • Develop guidance on traffic control matters
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology, or proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one year of full-time engineering experience. You must also be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
