Vice President of Technology Operations Position Available in Canada

Founded in 1993, Stonewood Group manages an ultra high-speed network that is significantly faster than conventional internet services, enabling advanced research and major scientific projects across Canada and internationally.

Over 39,000 researchers from nearly 200 Canadian academic institutions utilize our network, alongside researchers from various institutes, hospitals, and government laboratories nationwide.

Through this network, researchers can collaborate and analyze extensive data sets, potentially leading to significant scientific advancements.

The network, programs, and partnerships with regional and international entities foster research that provides substantial economic, social, and cultural benefits for Canadians.

Position Overview

The Vice President of Technology Operations reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and supervises a team responsible for the planning, design, operation, administration, and maintenance of the organization's sophisticated network infrastructure.

As a technical authority, the Vice President plays a vital role in engaging with national and international stakeholders (e.g., research, education, industry, government) to influence and implement advancements in cyberinfrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Vice President of Technology Operations include:
  • Representing the organization and Canada by providing technical insights to various national and international stakeholders.
  • Leading the development of technology strategy and roadmap, contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
  • Analyzing trends and technologies in cyberinfrastructure.
  • Translating client requirements into actionable technical plans and programs.
  • Planning network and service expansion, ensuring accurate and financially sustainable network strategies for current and future needs.
  • Enhancing existing services and introducing new service offerings.
  • Monitoring and maintaining network service levels through an efficient Network Operations Centre (NOC).
  • Supporting the delivery of technical and promotional programs.
  • Developing and managing the performance of direct and extended teams.
Qualifications
  • BSc. in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in telecommunications and technical leadership, with at least 2 years in a NOC or similar environment.
  • Experience in Product Line Management is desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of various cyberinfrastructure components, including TCP/IP, optical networking, network control and management planes, web services, peering, Service-Oriented Architectures, and cloud computing.
  • Experience in TCP/IP network design and troubleshooting, with strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; bilingualism is advantageous.
Travel Requirements
A moderate level of domestic and international travel will be necessary.
