About the Role: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled individual to fill the position of Residential Counselor at The American School for the Deaf.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with emotionally/behaviorally-disordered deaf and hard of hearing children and youth. They will be responsible for providing supervision and support during in- and out-of-school hours, as well as planning activities to promote personal and social growth.

This is a 12-month non-exempt position with a salary based on the Union Pay Scale, offering benefits such as retirement, group health insurance, and other fringe benefits.

About Us: Founded in 1817, The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth, and their families through specially designed instruction using an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise emotionally/behaviorally-disordered deaf and hard of hearing children and youth during in- and out-of-school hours">
  • Plan and carry out activities to promote personal and social growth">
  • Encourage good personal hygiene and attire, including bathing and feeding">
  • Assist students with mobility">
  • Implement Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)">
  • Participate in staff conferences and training activities">
  • Lift 50 pounds regularly">
  • Prepare reports and daily logs">

Estimated Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
