Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team at Roessel Joy. As a key member of our Human Resources department, you will be responsible for processing biweekly, multi-state payroll for approximately 170 employees using ADP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the processing of our organization's biweekly payroll and collect employee forms for payroll data to maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Handle employee status changes, analyze payroll and employee expenses, and ensure general ledger accounts are reconciled.
  • Audit payroll information for accuracy and reconcile payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions.
  • Prepare all payroll journal entries and reconcile monthly insurance statements.
  • Participate in problem-solving and special projects within the HR Department.
  • Assign exempt and non-exempt worker status to employees and prepare responses to notices from government agencies regarding employee tax filings.
  • Ensure payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies.
  • Perform actions necessary to track and determine regular and overtime pay.
  • Calculate and process Federal and State tax and social security withholdings, union dues, and other deductions.
  • Screen time-worked inputs for calculating, coding, or other errors and monitor computer reports alerting Payroll Clerks to problems or errors.
  • Reconcile errors and maintain payroll records.
  • Review and process payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick, and other time off.
  • Generate accrual entries as required and field and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Conduct payroll training for current and new managers.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules and laws governing payroll administration practices.
  • Assist with guiding and training managers on processing payroll and time and attendance.
  • Generate payroll and HRIS reports as requested by the leadership team.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2+ years of Payroll experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Must be a team player willing to assist in all HR areas or tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with ADP preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel and MS office suite - Outlook, Word.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Must be able to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Familiarity with federal and state wage laws.
  • Attention to detail a must.
