Salary Range: $23.79
The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in gathering demographic and insurance details through both telephone interactions and direct patient engagement. This position necessitates the use of eligibility applications to initiate requests for insurance verification, interpret the responses, and accurately record the necessary health insurance information pertinent to the services provided.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of contractual benefits related to the services rendered, alongside the capability to engage in financial discussions with patients regarding their payment responsibilities. Comfort in collecting financial obligations from patients based on eligibility responses or service estimates is essential.
Education:
- Associates Degree preferred
Licensure, Certification & Registration:
- CHAA certification (or to be obtained within 2 years of employment)
Experience:
- Strong computer skills
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in a hospital or physician office setting is preferred
- In-depth knowledge of insurance policies, including payer contract interpretation and authorization requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on exceeding expectations
- Ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment with significant patient volume
- Strong understanding of ADT systems and encounter corrections
- Capacity to learn effectively in a classroom setting and utilize available resources
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Critical thinking skills to analyze information and draw appropriate conclusions
- Good judgment and resourcefulness in problem-solving, with the ability to escalate issues as necessary
- Team-oriented work ethic
- Proven ability to interpret patient insurance benefits and apply relevant contractual obligations
- Ability to discuss sensitive financial matters with patients
