Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Obstetrician/Gynecologist to join our team at Queen's Health Systems Inc. in Maui, Hawaii.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality medical and surgical care to obstetrical and gynecologic female patients.
  • Concentrate on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health problems specific to the female anatomy.
  • Embrace a collaborative practice model with Family Practice Obstetricians and certified nurse midwives.
  • Perform assigned duties while displaying the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide medical and surgical care related to pregnancy and the female reproductive system.
  • Perform gynecologic surgical procedures, routine and emergent.
  • Specialize in childbirth, treating and counseling women throughout their pregnancy, from prenatal diagnosis to delivery and postpartum care.
  • Examine patients, obtain medical histories, screen for breast, cervix, and ovarian cancers.
  • Embrace normal, physiologic processes while providing respectful care.
  • Monitor the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
  • Detect the presence of fetal and maternal disorders of pregnancy.
  • Support the provision of holistic, non-interventional obstetrical care when appropriate.
  • Deliver babies, either vaginally or by cesarean section.
  • Support a patient's choice focused on woman/family-centered care.
  • Involves the patient and family members explaining diagnosis, plan of care, possible outcomes, and other pertinent information.
  • Discuss and prescribe contraceptives and recommend or refer for fertility drugs.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Create treatment plans and enter orders in a timely manner which are implemented by appropriate staff.
  • Counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care as well as social and environmental concerns.
  • Work with practice management to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding, and CPT code assignment.
  • Provide inter-departmental medical consultation as requested.
  • Coordinate care for patients needing specialty services.
  • Provide on-call services, as directed.
  • Respond to calls in time required by Department Rules and Regulations, specialty privileges.
  • Promote a functional team approach to service delivery.
  • Give feedback to and accept feedback from all staff in a respectful manner.
  • Act in a positive and professional manner, complying with practice policies, procedures, and federal and state laws.
  • Participate in the development of medical services, including protocols, standard procedures, and management of patient-care-related activities.
  • Maintain and promote a work environment that provides maximum safety and health and encourages safety awareness.
  • Report unsafe conditions and injuries/illnesses and incidents in a timely and proper manner.
  • Perform duties in accordance with safety and health rules and standards and use safe work techniques.
  • Charge tags and documentation all done timely, accurately, legibly, and in compliance with QMC guidelines, CMS regulations, and PATH rules.
  • Support the education of medical students, residents, and fellows working closely with the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (UH JABSOM) and Hawaii Residency Programs (HRP).
  • Support clinical research endeavors of UH JABSOM, Queens Medical Center, and The Queen's University Medical Group (QUMG).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to educating the next generation of healthcare providers.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty certification board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA or the ABOG. If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Eligible for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (UH JABSOM), preferred.
