Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Naval Architect to join our team in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will provide engineering and technical services to support the maintenance and modernization of US Navy Combatant Craft construction, alteration, and modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the efforts of subordinate engineering personnel in the accomplishment of routine naval architecture work, applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Direct the efforts of task personnel to apply selected techniques and procedures to assignments involving ship design and ship performance analyses.
  • Assist in the solution of difficult problems involved in areas of assignment, using prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader systems design, performance analysis, or hull form characteristic assignments.
  • Conduct calculations and analysis of anchoring, docking, dynamic positioning, finite element analysis, foils and appendages, hoisting, hydrostatic, inclining, loads, material selection, mooring, motion analysis, propeller sizing, resistance prediction, rudder sizing, speed-power, stability analysis, stress analysis, structural vibration, structure sizing analysis, survivability, trim and list, wave loading, and wind loading as they apply to Small Boats and Combatant Craft.
Requirements:
  • Ten (10) years' experience in the design, operation, maintenance, or testing of watercraft, including working experience with USCG, ABYC, ABS, and DoD standards for watercraft.
  • Three years supervisory experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of NAVSEA Manual No. S9AA0-AB-GOS-010/GSO, Rev. 9, and technical, specification, and contractual requirements, including NAVSHIPS Technical Manuals, NAVSEA Standards Items, Component Technical Manuals, Military Specifications, and NAVSEA Instructions.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Naval Architecture from an accredited institution.
Preferred Skills:
  • Small/High Speed Craft/Boat design experience.
  • Shipyard Experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Knowledge of Shipboard Installation practices IAW NAVSEA Tech Spec.
  • Knowledge and experience in Acquisition and Systems Engineering, Logistics, Integration, and Test and Evaluation.
