EHS Compliance Specialist

Sofidel America Corp. is a prominent subsidiary of the Sofidel Group, recognized globally as a leading manufacturer of paper products for hygiene and domestic use.
We are currently in search of an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance Specialist to enhance our operations. This role involves supporting the site’s Environmental Health and Safety Manager in overseeing various programs related to environmental compliance, safety management, health protocols, fire prevention strategies, emergency response initiatives, and relevant training sessions. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in designing and implementing programs that adhere to federal, state, local, and corporate environmental safety and health regulations, while also ensuring that all necessary records and documentation are maintained for inspections or audits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Core Duties: Execute all core responsibilities effectively, with reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
- Training Development: Create and implement training initiatives to meet legal standards and promote a safe working environment.
- Safety Oversight: Serve as the safety liaison for the installation and secure operation of new equipment and facilities.
- Claims Management: Oversee worker compensation claims in collaboration with human resources, and liaise with insurance providers as needed.
- PPE Management: Manage the inventory and procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) utilized by the facility.
- EHS Program Assistance: Support the EHS Manager in maintaining precise EHS programs and metrics for facility management and corporate reporting.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Keep abreast of all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, along with corporate policies and guidelines.
- Coaching for Compliance: Guide management and staff to ensure adherence to internal and external audits, as well as federal, state, and corporate EHS regulations.
- Employee Training: Deliver both formal and informal training to staff, supervisors, and management regarding safety policies and practices.
- New Employee Orientation: Conduct safety orientations for all new hires and visiting contractors.
- Risk Assessment: Perform risk assessments across all departments and recommend improvements to practices, policies, and procedures to foster a safe workplace.
- Risk Mitigation Recommendations: Advise management on appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Inspections and Audits: Carry out health and safety inspections/audits and ensure that corrective actions are documented and monitored.
- Workplace Engagement: Maintain a visible presence on production and warehouse floors, observing employees and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Environmental Audits: Execute environmental compliance audits/inspections and assist in preparing compliance reports and permits.
- Incident Investigation: Respond to and investigate EHS incidents, ensuring that effective corrective and preventive measures are enacted.
- Collaborative Meetings: Engage in meetings and workgroups to integrate activities, communicate challenges, secure approvals, resolve issues, and stay updated on new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other job-related tasks as assigned.
- Safety Equipment Oversight: Responsible for the management of safety equipment and PPE.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety is preferred, or a related science field, with at least 1 year of experience in health and safety and/or environmental roles within an industrial context, or equivalent education and experience.
Proficiency in computer applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, is required.
