Position Summary:

Role Overview:

We are in search of candidates who are eager to contribute to the firm's management team, emphasizing client service, continuous improvement, collaboration, and the development of human resources.

The Controller will oversee the Client intake process (including Conflicts and Fee Committee approval), manage the Revenue cycle (Billing and Accounts Receivable), handle the Expense cycle (Payroll and Accounts Payable), and direct Treasury functions (Cash and debt management, escrow account management) along with General accounting tasks (G/L accounting & month-end close, compliance reporting) in alignment with firm protocols while ensuring exceptional service to attorneys, clients, and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively, a commitment to quality and customer service, and the capability to prioritize tasks effectively.


Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of six Accounting Department staff, fostering leadership and training within the team.
- Implement and uphold necessary internal financial and operational controls.
- Maintain accurate books and records following the income tax basis of accounting.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of the monthly close process.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Manage Member draw schedules, distribution worksheets, and review Member compensation.
- Oversee compliance reviews, attestations, and audits by financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and clients.
- Manage the firm's trust and escrow account activities.
- Optimize relationships with banking and financial institutions.
- Build strong, cross-functional relationships to support the firm's operational requirements.

Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Director of Finance to enhance the firm's financial reporting, budgeting, and analytical initiatives, while maintaining the integrity of the firm's financial systems.


Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
- CPA certification is mandatory.
- MBA is preferred.
- Previous experience in a law firm is essential.
- Hands-on experience in optimizing financial, accounting, and reporting systems, with a preference for Aderant experience.
- A minimum of eight years of management experience in accounting operations is required.
- Proven ability to strengthen strategic relationships with clients, service providers, partners, and employees.
- High-level leadership, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are necessary. A strong team player with excellent diplomacy and influence is essential.
- The ideal candidate should be prepared to contribute to ongoing process automation and improvement initiatives.
- Willingness to engage in certain day-to-day accounting operations is expected.
