As a Community Habilitation staff member, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their goals and live independently. You will provide one-on-one support, teach life skills, and facilitate recreational activities to promote community integration and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Utilize effective communication and time management skills to ensure seamless support.
- Provide individualized support in community and home settings, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
- Complete mandatory training programs, such as AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, and Defensive Driving, and apply learned skills in practice.
- Demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies and ensure the health, wellness, and safety of individuals supported.
- Manage crisis situations and provide appropriate supervision to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Transport and escort individuals supported on recreational activities, medical appointments, and home visits.
- Foster positive relationships and maintain a therapeutic environment through Personal Outcome Measures, Person-Centered Thinking, and Informed Decision Making.
- Ensure person-centered plans are implemented and completed documentation for compliance and billing purposes.
- Utilize foundational teaching skills, such as EMOE, Task Analysis, Essential Skills, Supports, and Modifications.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Work or life experience within the intellectual/developmental disabilities field is an asset.
- Ability to support individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Valid Driver's License may be required depending on the position.
- Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to take initiative and adapt to changing situations.
Work Schedule:
- 20 hours/week Part-time.
