Job Summary

The Grants and Contracts Manager is a key member of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) team, responsible for providing oversight, direction, training, and mentorship to the Pre-Award Contracting team. This team is comprised of Grants and Contracts Officers who are responsible for accepting and negotiating extramurally funded grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts from non-profit, for-profit industry, and government sponsors.

The Grants and Contracts Manager will use their expertise to provide guidance on and tackle complex issues related to contracts and grants. This position demands strong analytical abilities and the capacity to respond promptly to emerging issues. Extensive knowledge of federal regulations and the capability to independently handle unique challenges are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of Grants and Contracts Officers, providing training and mentorship to further growth and professional development in staff.
  • Supervise staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with OSP Leadership and the team of Grants and Contracts Officers to implement process improvements for the OSP Contracting Team, OSP, and/or DRED.
  • Draft and negotiate sponsored industry contracts, as well as help project manage other related contracting activities for industry contracts.
  • Share responsibility with the OSP and Research Enterprise Services (RES) leadership team to identify regulatory changes and, when appropriate, work with key stakeholders across campus to implement changes necessary for Boise State to comply with the changes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 8 years experience in similar work, including 5 years managerial experience.
  • Supervisory experience with a track record of managing a high-performing team.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating terms and conditions with Federal, State, local government, university, for-profit, non-profit, and foreign entities.
  • Proficient in the use of Boise State University systems, such as Oracle and InfoEd and agency systems such as and eRA Commons.
