Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician - Health Unit Coordinator plays a vital role in the department, performing various clerical and patient care duties under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects and records patient data, reporting information and observations to the nursing team in a timely manner.
  • Obtains and records patient vital signs, height, weight, nutritional intake and output, and performs blood glucose monitoring.
  • Performs routine urinary catheter care and collects and transports specimens as requested.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and maintaining continence.
  • Answers and responds to patient call lights and requests in a timely way.
  • Maintains unit and patient records, files, forms, and documents related to work area management and patient care.
  • Prepares reports, purchase orders, projects, memos, and letters using computer programs.
  • Greets visitors and helps them as needed, answers telephones, and contacts professional and non-professional nursing team and medical staff.
  • Tracks call light response time for the unit and performs work area help duties as directed by the nurse or physician.
Requirements
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and relate professionally and positively with patients, families, and other employees.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
