Position Overview:
The Generator Technician is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of generator systems through comprehensive maintenance and repair services. This role involves traveling to various customer locations to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the Service Manager to develop an efficient work and travel itinerary, prioritizing customer requirements while considering logistical factors.
  • Identifies and rectifies equipment malfunctions; performs repairs or replacements of worn or defective components; installs new assemblies and adjusts controls to maintain operational integrity.
  • Supplies necessary tools and parts, coordinating with facilities to execute repair tasks, typically at customer sites.
  • Conducts inspections, operations, and testing of machinery upon delivery, at scheduled intervals, and after repairs to verify proper functionality.
  • Documents essential information such as customer details, machine specifications, malfunction descriptions, and time spent on tasks to facilitate accurate billing and account management.
  • Performs routine maintenance on generator units, including fluid changes, system inspections, and load bank testing, while ensuring all paperwork and checklists are completed accurately.
  • Enhances technical expertise through participation in vocational training, departmental meetings, and review of industry literature.
  • Upholds the company’s professional image by maintaining a tidy appearance and ensuring the service vehicle is clean and organized.
  • Experienced technicians may serve as troubleshooters for complex issues, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams for resolution.
  • Senior technicians are expected to mentor new staff or oversee teams during large assembly or repair projects.


Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Physical capability to perform tasks involving stooping, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proficient in using a multimeter and other diagnostic tools.
  • Possession of personal tools necessary for the role.
  • Competent computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with customers.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record to meet insurance requirements.
  • Willingness to travel overnight for out-of-town assignments as needed.
  • Availability for on-call duties as required.


Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience in servicing and repairing diesel and/or gas engines.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, including the ability to read diagrams and perform installations and repairs on AC and DC circuits.
  • Experience in power generation systems is advantageous.
