Position Overview

Success Academy Charter Schools is in search of a Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel to join our dedicated legal team in New York City. We are committed to transforming public education and addressing the challenges within the system through innovative school designs that offer a rigorous and holistic educational experience to students from diverse backgrounds. As the leading charter school network in New York, our 57 schools and over 23,000 scholars consistently outperform every district in the state, demonstrating that all children can achieve excellence.

Key Responsibilities

The Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel plays a vital role within the legal team, reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel. This position requires a strategic thinker who collaborates closely with both business and legal leadership to address the organization’s legal requirements and support various client groups throughout Success Academy.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or equivalent); strong academic record. Must be licensed to practice law in one or more U.S. states, with either admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for in-house qualification in New York.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptable, positive attitude with a sense of humor and willingness to embrace challenges.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking ability, effective engagement with internal clients, and capacity to deliver well-structured, insightful presentations to senior management.
  • Ability to build trust and confidence through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
  • Experience in a prestigious law firm is preferred.

Success Academy offers a hybrid work model, allowing for remote work on certain days and in-office collaboration on others.

The compensation for this position will reflect a variety of factors, including skills, experience, and organizational needs. The anticipated starting base salary ranges from $125,000 to $140,000. Depending on qualifications and experience, the title may vary between Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel.
