Houston, Texas, United States MD Anderson Cancer Center Full time

A postdoctoral research opportunity is currently available within the Department of Interventional Radiology at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Our focus is on innovating targeted imaging and therapeutic solutions for personalized treatment in oncology and vascular medicine.

We are particularly engaged in advanced imaging methodologies and the development of novel agents aimed at noninvasively monitoring and treating cellular mechanisms, thereby enhancing the diagnosis, treatment, and oversight of cancer and vascular conditions.

In the realm of vascular and interventional radiology, our research plays a pivotal role in advancing next-generation vascular grafts and perivascular devices, improving their precision and efficacy.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

The primary aim of our investigations is to engineer biodegradable medical devices composed of polymeric scaffolds that integrate therapeutic agents and nanoparticle imaging probes. This dual approach enhances therapeutic interventions while simultaneously allowing for noninvasive monitoring of the medical device's integrity.

The postdoctoral fellow will concentrate on the design and refinement of these biodegradable medical devices.

This will involve a comprehensive examination of various polymers to create devices that incorporate pharmaceuticals, mesenchymal stem cells, and nanoparticle imaging probes.

The research will significantly contribute to the enhancement of therapeutic interventions and facilitate noninvasive monitoring of the device's structural integrity.

Expected learning outcomes include acquiring expertise in biomaterial design, nanoparticle synthesis, and the application of these technologies to advance vascular projects, including the creation of innovative vascular grafts and perivascular devices.

QUALIFICATIONS
Highly driven candidates with a recent Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Materials Science, Molecular Medicine, or related basic sciences are encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Ideal candidates should possess robust laboratory skills in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization, medical device innovation, vascular surgery, and imaging techniques.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record as a PhD candidate, including at least two first-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in areas such as polymer science, synthetic chemistry, nanotechnology, drug delivery, and imaging.

Experience in nanoparticle or polymer synthesis and characterization, along with skills in cell culture, animal surgery, and imaging, is highly desirable.

Qualified candidates are expected to work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating self-motivation, critical thinking skills, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
