Senior Accountant

Section I. Overview & Reporting Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's accounting operations, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position involves the preparation of financial reports, compilation of financial statements, and thorough analysis of financial data to maintain compliance. The Senior Accountant will manage various financial processes, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, expense reporting compliance, and bank reconciliations. Reporting directly to the Controller, this exempt role supports the accounting and finance team in fulfilling departmental responsibilities.

Section II. Key Duties & Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant's primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Procedural Responsibilities:
    1. Prepare monthly reconciliations and manual journal entries.
    2. Oversee and assist in the timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial close.
    3. Coordinate monthly sales tax filings.
    4. Provide guidance and support for accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
    5. Assist in the annual budgeting process and preparation of financial reports and statements.
    6. Support the annual audit, quarterly reviews, and 401(k) audit to ensure timely completion with minimal issues.
    7. Provide necessary schedules and information to external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits.
    8. Assist with inventory control and cost analysis policies and procedures.
    9. Analyze, enhance, and implement new policies and procedures to align with technological advancements and improve operational efficiency in collaboration with the Controller.
    10. Assist with operating cash flow and funding requirements.
    11. Participate in special projects and analyses as directed by management.
    12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Section III: Required Skills and Attributes:
  • 3-5 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or management is required.
  • Strong leadership abilities and capacity to diagnose complex issues and work towards effective solutions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical skills for identifying root causes (both financial and general).
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Extensive experience with ERP systems (Epicor/P21 preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Competent presentation skills.
  • Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and in team environments.
Section IV: Physical Requirements:
  • Visual acuity necessary for reading computer screens, written documents, invoices, checks, etc.
  • Ability to work in various positions, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and squatting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the phone.
  • Capability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required for computer work and handling materials.
