Position Overview: The Surgical Technician/Tissue Processing Technician plays a vital role in the surgical team by ensuring that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and prepared for procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and places surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room according to established protocols.
  • Collaborates with team members to position patients safely on the operating table.
  • Prepares for surgery by scrubbing hands and arms, and donning appropriate surgical attire.
  • Assists colleagues in donning surgical gowns and gloves.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of essential fluids, including plasma, saline, blood, and glucose, for surgical use.
  • Provides instruments and supplies to the surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs additional tasks as directed during the procedure.
  • Applies dressings to patients post-surgery.
  • Conducts counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgical procedures.
  • Cleans and sterilizes surgical equipment using appropriate germicides and sterilization methods.
  • Ensures the operating room is clean and organized.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist as required by state or client standards.
  • Preferred one year of experience as a Surgical Technician (specific to Tissue Processing Technologist).
  • A degree in a biology-related field, including certification as a Surgical Technologist, is preferred.
  • Adheres to all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if required.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as applicable.
  • Valid Health certificate in accordance with contract or state regulations.
  • Compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively exchange information with supervisors, colleagues, and clients; proficiency in English is essential.
  • Required computer proficiency.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
