The role of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at UC San Diego is crucial in providing comprehensive perioperative care. Collaborating closely with Anesthesiologists, CRNAs contribute to the Anesthesia Care Team, delivering essential services throughout all UCSD medical facilities.

In this position, the Nurse Anesthetist operates under general supervision, offering proficient anesthetic services and airway management across various UC San Diego Health locations, including Hillcrest and La Jolla campuses. The role necessitates on-call availability, off-shift assignments, and the ability to provide anesthesia care to a diverse patient demographic, including complex cases recognized by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Position Title: Nurse Anesthetist

  • The position may be filled at either the CRNA or Senior CRNA level, depending on the candidate's qualifications.
  • While a cover letter is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged for applicants.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia program.
  • Possession of current California RN and CRNA licenses, or the ability to obtain them prior to employment.
  • Valid NBCRNA board certification as a Nurse Anesthetist.
  • Current BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications upon hire.
  • Background in various medical disciplines.
  • Proficient in organizing medical information and writing.
  • Effective communication skills and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Experience in anesthesia services and patient care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of recent licensed CRNA experience.
  • Experience managing complex anesthetic cases and OB anesthesia.
  • Interest in working within an Academic Medical Center environment.
  • Familiarity with operating room standards and patient-centered perioperative management.
  • Capability to manage central and arterial lines as required.

Special Conditions

  • Subject to background checks and pre-employment physical assessments.
  • Must secure and maintain UCSD medical staff privileges.
  • Recent clinical advanced practice experience is essential.
  • Willingness to work across all UC San Diego Health locations.
  • Availability for various hours, shifts, and locations is required.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts is necessary.

Compensation Information

Annual Full Pay Range: $224,878 - $314,808 (prorated if less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $150.77

Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, education, and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale reflects the expected range, considering internal equity and other relevant factors.
