Job Summary

The Intake Specialist is a vital role at Disability Rights Wisconsin, responsible for the initial contact with clients seeking information and referral or advocacy services. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with diverse community populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform intake functions, including interviewing clients, gathering information, and determining eligibility for services.
  • Manage the agency call log, ensuring timeliness and customer service standards are met.
  • Determine the nature of the problem and whether it relates to one of DRW's programs or priority areas.
  • Compile and enter intake information into the agency's database.
  • Assign priority intakes for follow-up by DRW advocacy staff.
  • Provide information and referrals to other appropriate resources when DRW cannot provide direct advocacy services.
  • Develop and maintain accurate information and resource material on disability issues and the work of various agencies and programs.
  • Prepare correspondence and mail informational materials to clients.
  • Work collaboratively with other intake specialists and the administrative team to maintain an efficient flow of intakes through the DRW process.
Requirements
  • Four years of paid or unpaid work providing information, referrals, and assistance to those with disabilities or underserved communities, or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Interview skills, including listening, verbal, and written communication.
  • Ability to gather, document, synthesize, and communicate information.
  • Computer skills, including email, word processing, and use of the internet.
  • Personal, professional, or educational experience dealing with persons in stressful situations.
  • Experience/direct contact with persons of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin's disability-related services/legal rights, residential, prevention of abuse/neglect systems, including Family Care, IRIS, community-based mental health programs, and adult/child protective services.
  • Paid or volunteer experience dealing directly with clients/customers on the phone.
  • Experience using computerized databases.
  • Ability to write and speak Spanish as well as English is desired.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and manage your own workload.
