Job Summary:

The Behavioral Support Technician will work under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher and Registered Behavior Technician to provide individualized support to students in a classroom setting. This includes assisting with classroom management, implementing positive behavior management strategies, and engaging students in functional skill domains such as communication, self-care, social skills, community use, leisure, and work.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide support to students in a classroom setting, including assisting with daily living skills, behavioral interventions, and educational activities.
  2. Collect and record data on student performance, including behavioral data and progress towards individualized goals.
  3. Participate in the development and implementation of Behavior Support Plans, including contributing to data collection and analysis.
  4. Assist with the supervision of students during arrival and departure, recess, breaks, and lunch, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  5. Communicate effectively with other education staff, program managers, and community service providers to ensure a collaborative approach to student support.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned, including preparing materials for instructional activities and completing routine clerical tasks.
Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  2. At least one year of experience working with school-aged children, preferably in a special education setting.
  3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with students, staff, and families.
  4. Strong problem-solving and crisis management skills, with the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  5. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and participate in physical interventions as necessary.

The Behavioral Support Technician will work in a day treatment program setting, which may involve exposure to communicable diseases and physical interventions. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
