ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS


• Proven experience in patent prosecution.


• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering is preferred, along with relevant research experience; or a Master's or PhD in a related chemistry discipline.


• Eligibility to take the patent bar exam; ideally already registered to practice before the USPTO.


• Strong academic performance.


• Proficient in analyzing, interpreting, and deriving conclusions from research data, and capable of preparing comprehensive reports. Excellent investigative and problem-solving abilities.


• Familiarity with the principles, procedures, and standards for drafting complex patent documents in the relevant field. Awareness of current and emerging trends within the area of expertise.


• Advanced understanding of research methodologies, techniques, and resources.


• Strong interpersonal abilities; adept at collaborating with a diverse range of individuals.


• Capacity to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and complete them within tight deadlines.


• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.


• Competence in conveying intricate factual and technical information effectively.


• Proficient in time management software and familiar with Outlook, Word, and Excel.


• Knowledge of prosecution docketing systems.


• Understanding of confidentiality issues and ethical responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role involves drafting patent applications, formulating responses to USPTO communications, assisting with diligence matters (including clearance studies and opinion work), and providing support for technical aspects of litigation as necessary. Responsibilities include:


• Engaging in ongoing education to stay updated on current patent prosecution issues and trends, essential for maintaining appropriate accreditation.


• Assessing and reporting on the technological aspects of inventions and other scientific matters. Conducting investigations into general and specific technologies as required. Discussing scientific components of inventions with clients and inventors.


• Identifying and analyzing intricate patent issues and implementing effective solutions.


• Acting as a liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office throughout the patent application process.


• Communicating professionally with staff, clients, and PTO personnel through various channels.


• Interacting courteously with clients, attorneys, and colleagues at all levels while maintaining confidentiality.


• Organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.


• Keeping abreast of technological advancements and recommending necessary technology solutions.


• Additional hours may be required to meet deadlines or manage workload peaks, with flexibility for evening and weekend work as needed.


• This position may offer a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, with up to two days per week potentially remote.
