Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement effective chemical hygiene policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards in laboratories and other areas where chemicals are used.
- Provide training and education to faculty, staff, and students on chemical safety and handling procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement safety protocols and procedures.
- Serve as a resource for faculty, staff, and students on chemical safety and handling procedures.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive chemical hygiene plan to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
- Develop and implement procedures for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement safety protocols and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, occupational health and safety, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in environmental health and safety, with a focus on chemical hygiene.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to chemical safety and handling.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Master's degree in chemistry or a related field.
- Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
