Food Service Shift Leader Opportunity

USC Auxiliary Services is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Food Service Shift Leader to join our team. As a key member of our hospitality operations, you will be responsible for leading daily activities at retail or residential dining venues, enhancing the customer dining experience, and providing guidance and mentorship to service employees.

The Opportunity

As a Food Service Shift Leader, you will assist management in leading daily operations and activities, ensuring that all unit-specific standards and brand standards are maintained. You will be responsible for assigning tasks, overseeing station deployment, and maintaining break scheduling. Additionally, you will assist in staff training, conducting training classes on safety, security, service standards, and departmental procedures.

The Accountabilities
  • Lead activities of back-of-house and front-of-house staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide guidance and assign workloads according to standard operating procedures, ensuring that all unit-specific standards and brand standards are maintained.
  • Ensure that all unit meets all applicable food safety, health, and sanitation regulations.
  • Respond to requests from customers, supervisors, or management in a timely manner.
  • Provide customer service by guiding and working alongside staff in all stations, as needed.
  • Prepare and coach the preparation of food and beverages to standard recipes or customized for customers.
  • Monitor and check all opening, closing, and side-work checklist as assigned by management.
  • Promote an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
The Qualifiers
  • Minimum Education: High school or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year in customer service in a retail or restaurant environment.
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Ability to learn quickly, excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in a retail environment, proven interpersonal skills, and proven ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
What We Prefer
  • Preferred Education: 3 years in customer service in a retail or restaurant environment.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Experience leading the work of others, demonstrated ability to mentor and train employees.
