Industrial Mechanical Estimator Job Description

Ames Construction is a leading heavy civil and industrial general contractor with a rich history of delivering innovative solutions to various market segments. We are seeking an experienced Industrial Mechanical Estimator to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist bid teams in analyzing bid documents and conditions to prepare accurate job costs.
  • Verify costs with suppliers, labor, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate turnover efforts with project managers.
  • Develop and execute strategies to win work, including purchasing, subcontracting, and labor cost savings methods.
  • Analyze all trades estimates and determine the best cost estimate for project conditions.
  • Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
  • Identify risks during estimate and determine proper mitigation plans.
  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for management purposes.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Collaborate with proposal teams to ensure client requirements are satisfied.
  • Identify resources needed to complete estimating efforts and communicate with management.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and walkthroughs.
  • Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other relevant company staff.
Requirements:
  • Five or more years of estimating or project management experience in the heavy industrial mechanical construction industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated.
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with owner representatives, engineering firms, subcontractors, and senior management.
  • Strong analytic skills and financial analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including MS Office, HCSS, Agtek, Bluebeam, and Primavera.
Working Conditions:

This position is geographically located in West Valley City, UT, with subsequent projects based in the region. The Industrial Mechanical Estimator will work in a construction site environment, requiring physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach, and climb. The position also involves extensive sitting at a desk and computer, with some standing, bending, and reaching required.
