CFD Engineer - Los Angeles

Company Overview: EVONA is a pioneering space technology company dedicated to pushing the boundaries of space exploration and revolutionizing the future of space travel.

Job Description:

As a CFD Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and optimization of fluid dynamics and thermal systems for advanced space applications. You will leverage your expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to contribute to the development of high-performance propulsion systems and spacecraft components, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of space environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • CFD Simulations: Perform detailed CFD simulations of propulsion systems, fluid flow, heat transfer, and aerodynamic interactions in space environments. Analyze results and provide insights to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Design Optimization: Collaborate with design engineers to optimize fluid dynamics and thermal performance of propulsion systems and satellite components. Propose and evaluate design modifications to enhance efficiency and functionality.
  • Model Development: Develop and validate computational models for various fluid and thermal phenomena relevant to space systems. Ensure models accurately represent the physical behavior of the systems under different operating conditions.
  • Multiphysics Analysis: Conduct coupled simulations involving fluid dynamics, thermal, structural, and chemical interactions to predict the behavior of complex systems in space environments.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including propulsion, thermal, structural, and systems engineers, to integrate CFD insights into the overall design and development process.
  • Validation & Testing: Support the validation of CFD models through comparison with experimental data and ground testing results. Participate in the design and execution of experiments as needed.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation, presenting analysis results, design recommendations, and insights to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on fluid dynamics and thermal sciences.
  • Proven experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, preferably within the aerospace or space industry.
  • Proficiency in CFD software tools such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of propulsion systems, aerodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
  • Experience with multiphysics simulations and coupling of fluid dynamics with other physical phenomena.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights for design optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in space propulsion systems, satellite design, or related space technologies.
  • Familiarity with space environment conditions, including microgravity, vacuum, and thermal extremes.
  • Knowledge of chemical propulsion, electric propulsion, or advanced propulsion technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with experimental testing and validation of CFD models.
