Research Coastal Engineer Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Coastal Engineer to join our team at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). As a Research Coastal Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis on coastal structure responses, coastal flooding and surge, and wave hydrodynamics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply coastal structure response physics, including empirical equations and associated uncertainties, to interpret and compare alternative equations.
  • Develop and implement probabilistic coastal hazard analysis and probabilistic coastal structure response analysis.
  • Conduct stochastic simulations and probabilistic modeling to inform coastal engineering decisions.
  • Communicate results concisely to teammates and CHL staff through written communication and presentations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance coastal engineering knowledge and practice.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or mathematics.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python programming languages.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn coastal structure responses, coastal flooding and surge, and wave hydrodynamics.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
