Referral Liaison Specialist

The Referral Liaison Specialist at St. Barnabas works under the supervision of the Assistant Director to support the SBH Referral Office in ensuring patients are cleared and scheduled for specialty and diagnostic services. This role involves making best efforts to connect with the staff of referring community physicians to maintain and update current existing data.
The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and work effectively in a team. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are essential, and experience working in a provider referral office is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the referral process for community-referred patients to support access to SBH Health System Specialty Services.
- Review all inbound referrals requests to ensure all necessary documents are obtained and communicate with community providers on referral eligibility criteria and requirements.
- Verify patient's health insurance to ensure eligibility and prior-authorization requirements, and connect patients to financial services as needed.
- Enter data to update and maintain health records in the referral management system and SBH's electronic medical record.
- Maintain and strengthen new and existing relationships with community providers through excellent customer service.
- Work with SBH Ambulatory Care to support patient navigation of services within SBH Health System and communicate with Clinic teams as needed.
- Communicate with patients through telephone, mail, MyChart, and text messages where appropriate to support patients with referral and appointment questions/concerns.
- Answer the telephone in a timely manner, politely, and in a professional manner.
- Provide appointment-related updates to community providers, including appointment status and visit summary.
- Have a strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask and work in multiple systems, manage call volumes, and work efficiently to maintain and exceed department goals.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an office/customer service/hospitality setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Experience working in a provider referral office preferred.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office programs preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
