Job Purpose

Senior Engineers at National Grid USA play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our electric transmission and distribution systems. This involves developing standards, designing control systems, managing assets, and integrating new technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement substation standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Provide technical support to various departments, including Engineering, Design, Operations, and Construction.
  • Research and adopt new and innovative technologies for substation and transmission line business, including support of pilots.
  • Perform calculations and studies to support substation standards design basis.
  • Develop technical content and implementation of National Grid's Transmission Engineering and Design philosophy, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Identify, investigate, and qualify approved manufacturers of equipment and monitor their performance.
  • Provide protection design and perform coordination and short circuit engineering studies, analysis, and disturbance investigations.
  • Collate and analyze data to support the department's decision-making process.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil/Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, with specific experience in transmission, distribution, or substation engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings, training, and conferences, including potential extended hours for emergencies or system events.
