Position Overview:
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Senior Research Engineer to join our dedicated team focused on advancing next-generation lithium-ion cell technology.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong inclination for hands-on laboratory work, possessing a proven track record in the fields of lithium-ion batteries, materials chemistry, and/or electrochemistry.
The Senior Research Engineer will initially concentrate on innovative materials and electrode-level advancements for prelithiation technologies, particularly in relation to NMC- and LFP-based systems.
Additional responsibilities will encompass supporting the design of materials and electrodes for advanced solid-state battery systems, aiming to develop scalable processes for the commercialization of these cutting-edge battery technologies.
The successful candidate will be laboratory-based, taking ownership of the development of advanced materials and electrodes for state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and execute experiments to create novel prelithiation and related electrode-enhancing materials, assessing their electrochemical performance.
- Optimize electrode formulations and assist in scaling up the corresponding materials, mixing, and coating methodologies.
- Design and construct single- and multi-layer cells to evaluate key metrics and demonstrate technological advantages.
- Conduct cell teardown and root-cause analysis as necessary.
- Document findings, prepare reports, and present results to cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Contribute to the generation of intellectual property.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in Materials Science and Electrochemistry, with a proven record in lithium-ion batteries, materials chemistry, or related disciplines.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with over 5 years of industrial experience is preferred, ideally within the lithium-ion battery sector (less experience may be acceptable for candidates with advanced degrees).
Experience in material-level development for lithium-ion batteries is advantageous.
Proficiency in advanced processing and analytical techniques for powders and slurries is essential.
Experience with full-cell testing and analysis of lithium-ion batteries is a plus.
Demonstrates a strong drive for results and accountability, with the ability to set clear, measurable goals and fulfill commitments.
